i want another reel, but smaller size. i figured that my pond was small so i coould bear with less line and have better sensitivity. the same reel or something close in value, as long as it is known to work nicely

Cranky, keep the reel, if you ever venture out to bigger waters, you can use it, plus It is a nice reel. Shimano makes a great product, dont trade it/

well yeah but i dont ever plan on going to bigger waters, plus i fish the pond 90% of the time. its a great reel... id be willing to trade it for a smaller one, perhaps a 1000. that takes about 4 pound test, so ill load it with 8 pound test

Cranky dude, don't worry about how much line it holds. That is a sweet reel, keep it and buy a walmart cheapo to pond fish with (I suggest the shakespeare cirrus)

its not just that. its just too heavy and insensitive. google the stradic5000. if i had a mgfa stradic this wouldve been fine.

Do you know the difference in weight of these reels? Also if someone offers another brand, then it could be heavier or lighter due to manufacturer. If you are not happy with the reel, why not try to exchange it where you got it for a smaller one? By the way, the reel won't make a bite from a fish more sensitive, the rod yes, the reel no. Heck man you're getting a better work out with the heavier reel rotfl. I actually use all 4000 series Quatums currently for my spinning. I like a bigger reel. I have a Abu 2000 I won about a year ago, and still haven't even put line on it yet LOL.

ok well this reel is 13 ounces. thats pretty heavy for a reel. if someone offered another brand id research it and see if it would be good. but yeah, nice idea, i think ill try trading it in

Spinning reels by their nature are going to be heavy. That is just the way it is. I too would save this reel and save up to get a 2500 size reel like a symetre.

I thought I'd never do big water game fish in my life and then a few months ago I was Marlin fishing. My point is, you never know.

Hey Island you can't marlin fish with a stradic 5000, you need like a Penn International 70

well im going deep sea today and checked with the guy... 5000 is too light. dont know, maybe a surf casting reel? but if i sell this i ca easily buy the symetre or even a smaller stradic

sabiki? what are those??? ive been planning on using it for saltwater...

A Sabiki rig is a rig of 4 or 5 small baits that just look like tiny bluegill jigs...They very in size, color and the jigs themselves...They are used for saltwater baitfish for marlin and sailfish and other stuff....I am by no means an expert on them and I prolly didnt eve explain them very well...lol

Cranky, if you can get a decent trade for it, do it....If not keep it...my .02 anyway

i see. no i understand. sounds japanese. if im going to go for anything large, i really should buy a surfcast... doubt a medium action st croix or ugly stik would cut it.

on the reel- yeah that was what i was thinking.
