Ok i just got a berkly lightning im6 7foot medium heave fast tip rod with a abu garcia 2005lp reel. Is this about the right setup for bass fishing and trolling walleye in south dakota? And whats a good lure idea for south dakota smallmouth.

I can't answer your rod and reel questions. But as to lures for South Dakota smallies, I would think not much different than New York smallies. These fish will readily attack any lure: topwaters, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits, soft plastic, jigs, etc. Match the lure to conditions such as water temp, depth, cover and the like.
