skeeter do you think a quantum Optix that holds 230 yards of 10lb test is too big for freshwater fishing? i have two of theese and dont like them ..its also a 5:3:1 gear ratio the handle turns seem really long etc...i think that might be a tad to obig

i think that if i had one,i would use it for catfishing and striper fishing, but for bass fishing,i like tiny, light weight reel because i only use spinning reels for finesse stuff and 6-10lb line.

also skeet i saw a post with you saying you use 17lb mono to cast a weightless senko ROFL....how far can it possibly go?

on my spinning rod i am casting senkos with 8lb test mono (this year coming i will be using hybrid) by yo-zuri...but sometimes even this dosent get me enoguh casting distance o nthe spinning reel....i fish small soth jersey lakes and some have ultra clear water which means i get the fish by long casts and natural presentations...i think i might rig a rod this year just for weightless fishing with 6lb diamter spider wire or suffix braid, this will allow me to have long casting distance and have good strength stil

its not too hard,it just takes practice. i mostly do casts that are 15 yards or under. on my spinning rod i sometimes use 10lb for weightless trick worms, but i only do that in the spring. i also fish flukes with 17lb on a baitcaster.

Welcome to the forum, Mike!

If you want distance with a stickbait try a Yum Dinger-I throw it on 12 lb Seguar Carbon Pro Fluorocarbon with a baitcaster and for some reason can get a lot more distance with a dinger than I can a Senko.

Thanks for the welcome. I have plenty of dingers, i like them a lot. They have pretty good action for a knockoff.

Around here the cover we have issnt really THICK THICK, but fairly thick. Im gonna be using a BPS extreme 6"6 mh batcasting rod rigged with a shimano citica 201D 6:1:1...ill be using this rod mainly for pitching and skipping jigs under docks etc. Probably gonna put 12lb line on it, would u reccomend fluro or mono?

Mike, I'm not so sure I wouldn't use braid. I throw jigs on 50 lb Powerpro-has a diameter equivalent to 12 lb mono. I fish a lot of flooded trees so the braid comes in handy in the thick stuff.

Welcome to the nut house. If you would fill out your profile, we would know more about where you are, and possibly some better advice to you based on your location. Have fun.

Netbaits Salt Licks are another Senko style bait that you can cast weightless a pretty good way on a spinning reel. Haven't tried them on a baitcaster yet. Can anybody tell me why it's getting harder and harder to find Salt Licks anymore. I know Netbait came out with another finesse worm but I really like the Salt Licks and my normal place to get them (alabamalakes.com) doesn't even carry them anymore.

Oh yea, welcome to the boards Mike!!!

Welcome Mike. I also use 15-20 lb test on senkos and super flukes. You can easily cast them any distance you need to.If not re position the boat closer to your target. Ivan
