				 | x-shad rap test

i test drove it finally this past sunday in the gin clear waters of lake tillery.. both the glass ghost and the olive color ones.. these things plum kick they have great feel on a steady retrive. a plus is that they are basicly a jerk bait/crankbait cross breed.. stop and go or just dig and slash actions really done well.. ok for the record the bass fishin was tough 3 largemouth grabbed it. 30 blasted white perch several in the 2 pound range. and i caught 7 garr on it-1 over 40"-the feather trailer still looks good the finish is still good..i hit about 7 feet diving depth.. zooker

Good and accurate report on the X-Shad Rap, Zooker. I agree with everything you said. The 2 settings where I've had the most success with it is 1) when fishing a submerged point and 2) if fishing over submerged stumps that are in 10 - 13 feet of clear water. Whe nfishing over the stumps I cast way beyond the stumps, then (as you say) slash it, jerk it, etc. until I get over the stumps and then just stop! That X-Rap holds in position and I let it just sit there for up to 30 seconds before my next twitch. Most of the fish that I catch with this method hit on the 1st twitch after the long pause. But I do get nervous having it sit above the stumps, because a couple of times I've had the fish hit it and dive down to the stumps and either break me off on a stump or bury the hooks in a stump . . . . and those X-Shad Raps are expensive! DrB

I have one in my arsenal but have only used it once briefly. It will get a workout this coming weekend and next. It will really get a workout next Spring. When the water is in the upper 40's to low 50's I love using a deep diving jerkbait. That crank should be perfect for those conditions. Eric |

Were you using the standard x-rap or the deep model?

Speaking of Rapala... I just bought a new Jointed Shad Rap "Shad" colored crankbait and a Glass Shad Rap in "Gold Shad". It looks promising, though... -Lunk-

If you find that a bait works well, then get another for obvious reasons.

I love all shad raps in all forms. This is a bait that has more than 9 lives. Every time they change it it gets alittle better.
