<<Extra spool?>>
I've always wondered why the extra spool was thrown in when I buy a new reel? I bought a little Pleuger and just wondered why they give you the extra. I can asume it's for replacing but when should i replace the original spool with the extra?

Its used for a quick change when you have two different test lines.
Say you have 20 lb. on Spool A, but you want to use 17 lb. today. Spool up Spool B the night before, and when you want to change, just change spools instead of re-lining. -Lunk-

1 reel, lots of spools with different lines for different applications or needs = no need for another reel, unless you think ( like many of us ) that one reel is not enough.

The only problem I have with having two spools spooled is that the non-used one is usually curled so dern bad, that it is no good by the time you plan to use it.

But doesn't your Guys' pre-spooled spool(s) curl when you're not using them?

Or soak it a few mins in REALLY warm (not hot) water before you head out...that will help some. Less it HAS been on there a really long time.

I use my extra spool on my Cardinal 100 for 10lb braid for finesse fishing, and the other spool has 10lb mono, Stren, of course.

Do you ever get any bad curls with it, BB?

With the mono or the braid? Actually I don't get curls with either. I'm hoping to switch to PP braid or Stren Braid this summer and see if I like it better than the BPS Excel Braid.
As for the mono, Stren has VERY VERY low memory. I got more memory from my Trilene XL than the original Stren. That's rediculous for a line that supposed to be 'Extra Limp' BB

I'm going to try Sufix for all my Mono and Braid this year. I've heard it has the least-memory of any Mono made.

Good call Suffix makes the only mono I can fish at the jetties- pretty tough but very limp.

I know why Lunk. It's because you won't listen and buy Suffix Siege!

Some people use the spare spool to collect dust. Some use the spare spool for a different line, so you have options. Some use the spool as a back up if they go through a lot of damaged line, they can just switch to the fresh spool. Me, I have 3 spare spools for my 3 like reels. I use one for back up line with my set up I use mono on, the other 2 spools I spool up with new line to test. If I don't like the line, I can just pull the spool and go back to the line I like. When I get to shore/home/camp, where ever, I can strip off the line and try something else, or load it with back up line, or leave it sit waiting for something new to try. A tip for spooling the spare, use a rubber band tied to the line to hold the line on until needed.
