Well, the day started out like this: The thermometer read 28 at my house. But George and I had the afternoon off, so we met up at 11 am and headed down to the lakes. It was bright blue skies, but the wind was a steady 10-15 mph, brrrrrrr! The water temp was a chilly 56 degrees, the coldest I've seen it in 3 years of fishing these lakes. We thought we would need to fish texas rigged worms really slow. For 10 minutes, not even a bump, unusual for these lakes. But then George broke the ice,(almost literally!), with a descent 1.75 lb fish. We worked the shore picking up a bass here and there, till we reached a cove where I'd had some luck lately - the Bassin Brits caught a nice 5.4 lb bass there and I caught a 5.8 lb bass. I switched to my swimbait, and started casting the deeper water, right at the bottom of the drop off. Pretty soon it was bam!! Reel stopping slam!! George netted this 5.5 lb beauty for me: It was almost in the exact same spot I had caught one the same size 2 weeks earlier. George and I started nailing them on worms and the swim bait. A little while later, again in the deeper water, this 4.2 pounder came aboard. We switched lakes with 1 1/2 hours left to fish, (one we nicknamed "Stickmarsh"), and couldn't buy a bite. In the last 10 minutes, I managed a 1.5 lb bass on the Rapala glass rap, saving us from getting skunked on that lake!

Congrats on a nice day. I'd kill for 56 degree water right now. While we're having a "heat wave" with temps in the 40s, the NYC reservoirs are solid as a rock. Temps on the bottom are right around 39 degrees F.

Great looking fish. I just read a post from supermat where he used a swin jig with a swimbait as a trailor. Just thought I would mention it to you as I thought it looked like a great idea for fishing deeper water with swimbaits.

Bateman, that 5.5 looks 7! What a beautiful fish. I hope I am half as successful when I hit FLA. with the family in April!
