				 | American Rodsmith rod -- #%&(*^

I have a problem with my new American Rodsmith crankin stick, every time I set the hook the reel flies off. I put different reels on it same thing. Those same reels, no problem on other rods. Any ideas before I do a Jim80 with it and take it back.

It´s the reel seat, the problem can be solved, put a piece of duct tape on the reel foot for a tighter fit. A couple of Kistler Mag TS I purchased had that same problem when they were manufactured with Batson reels seats. Now on the other hand, why should you have to "fix" a problem like that ? 180 bones rod ( Mag TS ) with a bad reel seat , 2 180 bones rods with the same problem . Heck, the least I can expect when I´m paying 180 dollars for a rod is that it has at least a good reel seat. |

well put Raul, I have had the same problem with a abu garcia rod and used black electrical tape, just to wrap the reel on the rod ...looks a tad less hillbillish than grey tape LOL |

I'd take it back. You payed for a rod built to do it's job. If it can't, geet something else. I was in charge of a fishing dept for 8 years and never had a reel seat problem with any of my rods. I did have problems with Shimano rods though. They were always being returned due to the blanks breaking. Didn't have that problem with any other rods I sold. To this day I won't buy a Shimano rod. But to be fair, this was 20 years ago. Hopefully, Shimanos quality has improved over the years.

I had a cheap rino rod that my son was using that had the same problem no matter what reel went into the reel seat it wiggled around , I just put a small piece of cardboard under the reel and that got rod of it . by the way I do believe the jim80 it is now a coined term Jim

Well I did the Jim80 today and took the rod back and they didn't have another one. So I got a Kistler crankin stick, I just hope I like it has good has I did the American Rodsmith. I will find out tomarrow.

Once upon a time I had an Ugly stick that did not match up well with a Abu C3, used electrical tape. I'm sure thats not the only solution. With all the advances or changes in rod construction, I'm not surprised by the problem. I was looking at the shimano cumaras the other day, and I loved the reel seat but wondered how some reels would fit in it.
