Brookville Lake Indiana - Tournament
I am fishing in a club tournament this weekend, and I hoping I could you get some help. The tournament is on Brookville Lake in Indiana. Here are the expected conditions:
Water clarity = clear Water temperature = 65F Water level = at pool Weather = Sunny & 80 (Will be the 5th straight day of the same weather) Hatch = Shad, shad, shad, bluegill (the lake is loaded with shad) The fish are beginning to spawn, or right in the middle of it. I was thinking about starting off with a shad or bluegill colored crankbait or soft plastic (soft jerkbait) in the morning. When, not if , the bite slows I was then going to switch to shaky head / wacky rigs / flipping & pitching of the same colors with Senko type, finesse worms, or lizards. Thoughts? Tony |

My buddies hit brookville yesterday an it was dead as a doornail. Hope it gets some cloud cover by tourney time. I'd throw a black and silver rogue, some bandit crankbaits, the lake is known for a lot of chartruse lures, spinnerbaits.

I'd probably go north to Quakertown and fish across from the Houseboats on the east bank, its from Hanna ramp to the Dunlapsville causeway(north), tie on a spinnerbait, rattletrap, worm/jig

Was down there the other day for a few hours, and did catch 3 keepers (not of any bragging size) off a brown 3/8 ounce jig, and alabama craw skirt with the same color trailer.
Agree with Denny, Templeton and Garr are worth checking out. I've also done fairly well so far fishing shallow towards the north end of the lake behind the sailboats.

Hey guys! I am a newb really, with a lot of questions. :-)
1) Why use Tenn Shad lure colors if the lake is filled with Giz Shad? Doesn't that go against the "match the hatch"? 2) Why is Brookville a "chartruese" lake with the water clarity that it has? Seems counter-intuitive. CiK |

I think the shad colored baits work just fine, it just seems like they like the chartruse color. The lake used to be fairly green stained but has cleared up a lot over the last 10 years.

Well, makes sense then. The guys that did well had their soft plastics dipped in chartruese dye. I caught my fair share of fish, but nothing worth weighing in. :-(
On to the next one...... |
