So I have a clear lake by my house I've done very well on watermelon-based colors on my plastic worms but all that the fish eat in there are bluegill and minnows. So should I fish purples, and blues as well on my plastics? When would be the time to choose a watermelon over a bluegill or minnow pattern?

			IB's right.

I'd start with a purple, black, or junebug. If those don't work, I'd try GP or watermelon. BB

Bluegill is the main forage of our local bass and blues and blacks are by far the most productive colors for plastics.

Just try defferent colors until you find what they want. Last Saturday they wanted watermelon candy. Wouldn't hit anything else.

Here´s the deal, there are days ( like Reb just pointed out ) that fish will only hit one particular color and nothing else, I´ve had similar experiences throughout my almost 3 decades of bass fishing, on those days color is everything, however most days also in my experience color has very little importance, so:

1.- Have a good selection of the most popular colors plus a few extra colors. 2.- Use the most popular ones and if you don´t obtain good results then change. |

I think it has more to do with lure presentation than color. The style of worm size and line size and material and lure weight and lures rate of fall and cadence in which it is fished has more to do with triggering a fish to bite than color does.I think if you adjust to the activity level and depth in which they are holding in will catch more fish than a certain color for the day might provide for you.
