Crazy Legs Chigger Craw.

Ok so i just picked up my first pouch of these guys in black/ red flake color. I plan to try some shakyheading, and jigging with them. One thing I am not sure about is if I am supposed to pull the legs and flappers apart?

John, one of the nice things about the crazy legs chigger craw is you can fish it how it works best for you. You can pull everything apart and try it like that, works good in murky water, or leave every thing together to go with a more compact package, like as a jig trailer in clear water. I even pull the tentacles off of them sometimes, I just play with them until I start getting a few bites, then I figure I must be close to what they want. I usually fish them with a 1/16th oz bullet weight Texas rigged. Good luck.

Oh, it is kinda cool if you Texas rig them to put your bullet weight on backwards, that is with the tip of the weight touching the bait. It causes the weight to stir up a little more sand and debris on the bottom and looks like a crawdad trying to scurry off.

Yep, pull them apart, and it will allow the bait to have more action with the flapping legs.

I normally pull them apart. Same goes for the normal chigger craws.

Tav, that is a good idea, I'll have to try the backwards bullet weight.

Wish it was my idea, I got it from a guy at work, he never seems to get out to fish much anymore but he sure is a wealth of info.

I pull them apart you shouldn't be disappointed with that bait.

A wise man once told me to rig them backwards which mimics the defensive position with claws up.

They are great baits. The smallies up here tear into them. I have kind of kept them together, but will experiment more with pulling apart. Thanks for the post. Always need to be reminded of the different possibilities.

Pull em apart
Screw them onto a 1/4oz. round jig head, with the spring to hold the plastic,bury the hook
cast it in rocky area
cast, ley it sit, pop jerk it, a few cranks in then let it rest, repeat all the way back

check it out in shallow clear water, looks like a craw swiming to escape

I pull them apart too. Try dipping the claws in chartreuse dip. I've had good results doing that.

I fish these as trailers on flippin jigs, I bought a bunch of lumiflex skirts in green pumpkin and soaked them in "Pure" in craw scent for a day or two and allowed them to dry out. The lumiflex holds the scent for quite some time and the crazy legs have whatever scent powerbait uses on them. Its a killer combo, I can take to my local smallie river and pound fish all day or take them to my local ponds and pound big bass all day.
