Default just a little warning folks

ok, some of you folks know what happened to me last tuesday at work. but for the rest of you........

we were cutting down trees last tuesday at work, clearing off some land for the mayor. i fell a tree and with another co-worker de-limbing it. well the tree rolled and caught the saw putting it in a bind. me and the fellow working with me were trying to lift the tree, seeing as he got the other saw stuc as well, to get the saws out. we got the saws loose but the tree rolled again. rolling over on my right foots big toe. yeah, VERY painful indeed. together we lifted the tree enough to get my foot out from under it. i knew it was broken, or so i thought from the pain i was recieving, lol. i took off my shoe and sock. sure enough it was pinched like crazy but not broken. that is the good news.
well, we got the foreman over and he took me to the workmans comp doctor. now we all know how these doctors are right? bandaid and go back to work. but not this time. i was surprised to say the least. she (doctor) looked at it and said it wasn't broken, but that i would most likely lose the nail off the toe. great i thought, gonna be in some kinda pain when they rip it off. but she said no, it would come off on it's on. just ice it down for a couple of days and see how it felt.
i went in this morning and she looked at it and said...........come back next week. do not return to work until i ok it. it is really swollen up and looks like a plum, haha. hurts on top more than the bottom, but i can't walk on it. and yes it is the trolling motor foot. so no fishing this weekend. maybe sometime next week if it feels better.
moral of the story is BE CAREFUL OUT THERE GANG! do not get in a hurry on the job. i know how important your job is, but if you are hurt and can't work (AFLAC DUCK), you ain't no good are you? workmans comp doesn't pay that much and now we are REALLY gonna be in a bind around here.

so just be careful gang. will update ya'll on how the toe does. hahaha.

cmorg i work for the city. they don't require you wear steel toes shoes. heck, they don't require most anything, lol. this is one reason i am looking for another place to work. the city buys us a pair of boots each year, which turns out to be later and later each year. right now we are aobut 10 months behind on our new boots. i have been there for almost 5 years and have YET to even see a safety meeting of ANY kind. very backwards? YES!!! dangerous? MORE SO!!! rule is you look out for YOURSELF. i intend to do just that buddy. yes everything is on record in my cases. if anything goes wrong, lisa has the lawyer's number on speed dial.

Bama, don't worry about the toenail. I typically go through 1-2 a year on my big toes. I love getting big air when skiing and the typical outcome is a broken toenail. I just get a sharp knife, poke under the nail (watch out the blood usually explodes out) and then wait about 1-2 weeks and it'll just fall off. Some people will even drill on the top of the nail to relieve the pressure. Not me.....

hahaha, i ain't worried bout the toenail buddy. if it comes off, fine. been ingrown every since i can remember anyway. they didn't have a drill, had one of those real hot needles. i said no way, in enough pain as it is. they weren't even gonna numb it. so i declined the needle. i tell you guys, these people here are so 1400's in their medical pratice. i ain't worried about the blood either. i have mashed off the tip of a finger, cut my leg with a skill saw, had a rock bust my head from a lawnmower, broke the foot where the mashed toe is now and been shot with a .22 rifle. and yet i still can't tolorate pain, hahahahaha. had enough of it i suppose.

With the advent of modern shoes, toenails are nearing vestigal organ status. You got a good deal john. Much better than having actual damage.

And Julio is playing with a broken hand...that means suck it up and go fishing big guy.

Glad you're ok man, it could've been much worse. Toenails take a long time to grow back too, maybe you can get all that time off work!

Also, I'd be out on the boat, weaving back and forth, fumbling with my other foot on the TM.

Moral of the story: If you want to clear trees off land....make sure the trees don't know how to get revenge.

Sorry to hear about the toe. When I was in college many moons ago, I played football. I got a toe stepped on by a 350 Lb animal from Purdue. The toe nail was smashed pretty good. The team Dr. put me on weight room only. Said I would lose the nail. I woke up one night in severe agony. The pressure was throbbing so bad I thought it would explode. I out of desperation took a sewing needle, heated it up, took a few belts of Dr.Daniels, and stuck it under. Blood and junk gushed. Went back to team Dr. he put me back on light drills. Played the next week. It remained real red, but I didn't think much of it. few days later the fevers started. Ended up that the toe was so infected I could have lost the toe. You need to keep a eye out for infections. Foot injuries, because they are contained with little air, can turn bad pretty fast. Moral of this story. If you can WEAR SANDALS WHEN OPERATING FOOT PEDAL!

Bama....this whole story confuses me.

I was under the impression that nobody in Alabama wore shoes anyway.

Seriously, John. Take care of that foot. The nail will grow back eventually. My little brother crunched his toe with a shovel once...same outcome. It turned out alright.

Just use some WD-40 and Duct tape and you should be good to go! They fix everything. hahahahaha I know Lisa will take care of ya though. Just sit back this weekend and enjoy watchin the Tide find redemption. If'n ya needs some grub or suds just snap the fingers, hahaha. :Just kiddin Lisa"!!!

Glad you didn't break the little piggy dude. Hope you get in some fishing time before you have to get back to work. Where I work they are very very big on safety, hell they actually take it too far sometimes and it's frustrating when they do. However I can't imagine working at a place where the safety of employees are put before anything else. Hang in there boss.

Bama hope everything works out. I smashed my big toe once. There was a ton of blood under the nail. I decided to drill a hole through my toenail. I got a tiny drill bit and run it back and forth with my thumb and forefinger. Took a little while but it didn't hurt when it went through the nail. Seemed to hurt more after the blood was out.

i drill every one immediately. sometimes with a drill press. the more speed the better. if you use low rpm, its likely to hang going through...lol.

An orange hot paperclip will slip through that nail pretty quick too.

Embrey, I shake too much to be using a drill press for something like that. I would have a bum nail and a hole in my finger.

HAHAHA, THANKS FOR THE "ADVISE" GANG. although i have already busted it a little and let it drain some, will have to do it again though. it still hurts and is swollen up still. lisa is about to go crazy, lol, telling me to DO something instead of sitting around all day with my toe elevated. she is kidding of course. but i AM getting tired of it already. i walk around some, till it hurts too much to walk anyway. it ain't infected and i intend to keep it that way. the nail will for sure come off. so maybe if it ever goes down (swelling) i can get out on the rajun cajun and do a little fishing. the weather has to get better too. too windy now with the fronts moving in. 15-25 mph winds ain't good in my opion. and at least tomorrow i will have lots of football games to watch, hahaha. that'll drive lisa over the edge i think. we go through this every fall, football season starts and she goes nuts cause all i want o do is watch football. hahahaha, women. gotta love em right?
well anyway, thanks again gang. i'll kep ya'll posted on it.

p.s. i took a picture of it with my cell, lisa wanted me to send to some of you. but i ain't THAT mean. lol. besides it is worse than the picture looks. trust me.
