Default Dishwasher trouble

I have a Maytag Jetclean dishwasher. The Plus 2 version. When we close the door, it starts automatically. But thats the problem. When we close the door it won't run. I know it is getting power. Some of the lights are lit up. And when we pushed on the door it would start. But even that trick won't work now. I don't know what exactly makes it start up when the door is closed. It might be the latch at the top of the door that hold it shout when closed, but not sure. Any ideas where the problem lies? I can't find the manual.

You close the door then push or choose a cycle button reg, short, timed delay etc.,water then comes in when enough it starts.
So the program part via buttons, door sw,timer, and possibly a float switch never had this one apart dunno if its a plus 2 bought it used works fine(Maytag),suspect your door sw as you mentioned it would for awhile work when held in.Latch part is just that a latch, switch is most likly in open position electrically. If under warranty call them, does not look like easy to get to.12 allen set screws 1 door gaskit and most likly a gaskit around that switch, just to check it with volt ohm meter.Motor itself would be last in line to check and none of it easy to get to,and no matter how carefull one is placing old gaskit back in place it will leak, permatex one and still will,v8 wont but it will.
Lastly put humpty back together and get it out of the center of the kitchen floor before the Queen comes home .
This is not the voice of reason but of experience.
Call the maytag repair man he has little to do,they do last a long time prior to Armageddon.
PS mine was 150 dollars used delivered I installed, repair call + parts will most likly exceed value of unit

Sounds like I better call the service guy then. On mine, you set the dial to what type of wash you want, and THEN push the door in. When you do, it then fills with water and starts the wash cycle. The other buttons for dry settings, and wash settings are seperate and are on. They have a small light to tell you they are active, and that light is on.

Found the manual! But, of course, the trouble shooting section does not offer any suggestions regarding failure to start when the door is closed.
