I was recently watching this years Bassmasters and, like every year, the anglers speed reel the fish in the boat. I mean this is Day 1 of 3 long days of fishing and their getting the fish in the boat as quick as possible by launching them in. I thought they did this to save time even though it seems it would allow more fish to get away. Do they do this to conserve time or is it really a good way to get the fish in without it spitting the hook? Chris |

Its all in how the fish is hooked, what lure its on, and how big it is. Heavy line and big single hook types of lures make for easier "skiing" and lures with small single or treble hooks that are easy to throw make for trying to keep the fish down rather than on top. Sometimes they also get excited and ski a fish that shouldnt be and lose them. Each fish is different also, sometimes you fight a fish just right and they just dont stay on, and sometimes you do everything wrong and they just wont come off. The more time on the water you spend, and the more fish you catch the better you learn how to judge the best way to get each one in. You never get it perfect, but you can increase your odds and get more in the boat as you learn.
