Yep-fish as slow as you can possibly stand, then slow down some more. Easier said than done

Not neccessarily, kh. For the most part slow is the way to go. Fresh Water Redfish reminded me with his question-a fast retrieve is always worth a try. One time I was slow rolling a rattletrap-moving it just fast enough to vibrate-when it got hung on something. I ripped it free and a 2 pounder smacked it. The water was 48 degrees.

Fast can sometimes elicit a reaction strike, but 95% of the time slow is the ticket. Now this is all based on where you are the water temps etc... If your winter is 70 degrees with 60 degree water temps slow isn't always the best. Most folks who get water temps down below 50 need to slow down, use c-rigs, PNJ, stick baits, but deadsticking is a great technique during this time. Lizards

Sometimes fast can work but for the most part slow will be better.

Yeah-there is a power plant lake just south of here that has a healthy population of fresh water redfish.
