Rookie Question

Could someone explain the difference to me between different types of lines namely mono, fluro and braid?? Thanks

Mono-basically a nylon thread. Has a lot of stretch which makes it good for crankbaits and spinnerbaits acting like a shock absorber.

Flourocarbon-has the same light refractive properties as water, which means it is invisible in the water. Less stretch than mono and sinks. Is also stiffer than mono.

Braid-just that-a braid of smaller fibers. Usually made of spectra fiber, which has no stetch and is extremely strong for it's size. Floats pretty well but really shines in the real thick/heavy stuff. Great for those baits you have to make an active hookset like a worm or jig.

What would you recommend for all around use...I mainly use spinners and jerks with the occasional trap worm and jig...thanks

just use mono. thats pretty much the cheapest and best line to use. get some px line or some berkley sensation all good stuff

So are there certain brands (Power Pro etc) that are a certain type for examply is there powerpro braid mono etc or or basic brands a certain type braid mono etc (sorry i'm a lil drunk)..

I use three lines:

Green Trilene XL
Seguar Carbon Pro Flourocarbon
Powerpro braid

Mono will work as an all-around line just fine. I use it for cranks, spinnerbaits, topwaters, amd hard jerkbaits.

Flouro I use for weightless soft plastics like a fluke or a senko-type bait.

Braid I use for worms, jigs, and in real heavy cover.

I now some of the waters you fish in. I live in Southeastern ArkieSlaw. Give P-Line a try. Its a little more money but its a great line. It is a advanced copolomer line that tests out way more than its rating. 12lb test will actually not break till you get around 15-17lbs of load. Very good abraison qualities. Only thing I do have against the line is it does have a tendency to have memory but a good dose of Reel Magic cures that. Its also very sensitive. Just my 2 cents.
