I though of the post "Unlikely Lures" on todays trip. I got to Bill Waller
http://www.mdwfp.com/level2/Fisheries/pdf/maps/204.pdf about 7:00 this morning. I went to work on the lily pad field with a horny toad and a Bassassin soft jerkbait. I got nada. I tried a green pumpkin lizard in 8-10' of water and nothing again. I moved to another padfield and threw the Spro frog and jerkbait until I was blue in the face. I started thinking about things, and I thought about the "Unlikely Lures" thread. I tied on a Strike King 3/8 blue/black mini buzz, and bam, 2 lb fish on at 10:00 on the nose. The fish would not hit in the larger pads, I had to find the smaller 4" or so pad fields to get any action. When I would throw the bait, I could see the fish making a wake for it. By 3:00 I only caught the one fish, but I had about 12-15 blow ups. And that is fun in itself to me. Especially for Waller, because I have fished this lake for so many years without nothing, and now I am finally starting to catch stuff, if it is only 1, when others aren't catching anything. But I will find the hot spot one day. If anybody wants to come and show me how to fish it, I will gladly go hahahaha. Back to the pads, I couldn't run a trailer hook for the muck I was throwing in, so I just had to go with what I had. It's hard to think that they would give up a soft jerkbait for the turn and burn of a buzzbait. I need to get a 10:1 reel than brings in 4' per turn because I am give out. I am glad I borrowed my buddy's trolling motor too. The wind shifted out of the SE around dinner, I would still be trying to paddle to the ramp if I wouldn't have. Well I just thought I would share my day with you guys. I got to go back to work tomorrow, so fish can rest for 2 weeks.
