I went north with a group of guys on an annual fishing trip to Grand Lake near Presque Isle, MI last week. We went up late Wednesday evening and came back late Sunday. The weather was terrible with temps getting down into the 20s at night and the wind was never less than 10-15 MPH. Most of the time it was a steady 20 with gusts up to 35-40. On a 7,000 acre lake this created 4 footers on one day and made the lake unfishable for me. Two boats in our group got swapmed at the dock and sank and another guy's TM and big motor quit. There were also lots of broken rods and other things from fishing in such tough conditions.
Last year we hit the lake just at the right time for the spawn and there were lots of fish caught, we were a little early this year. I still averaged 20 fish per day, but the sizes were way down and they were tough to catch. My big was only 4-3, and for that lake it should have been easy to catch one over 5. Still it was a good trip but my old body is taking a long time to recover from 14 hours on the water every day. ![]() |
