It's been a long winter, but my dad and I finally got out. After a very late start (battery problems), we headed out.
We got to the lake, and we both started with jerkbait: my dad a husky jerk, me and x-rap. I immediately realized my 7' Medium power, Moderate action crankbait rod, wasn't giving me the action I wanted. So after three casts, I switched to an XCalibur Xr50 in Pearl Melon. Second or third cast with that and I hooked into the first one. He was long enough to be a keeper, but not my much. We kept moving on down the bank, trying different things. Then I decided to try my version of the shoe lace: a white Zoom Trick Worm on a shaky head. A couple casts with that and I had my second fish. My dad then tied on the same thing. Meanwhile, I hooked into another 16"er. After a few casts w/ the shaky head and white trick worm, my dad hooked into the biggest of the day. We forgot the lip grips with the scale, but it was close to 4lbs. He got hung in a lay down, and then his line got tangled after breaking off. So he picked up a jig. A few casts, and two missed bites later, bam, another one. About 3-1/4lbs. I continued to catch one more on the shaky head, and then at around 5:15, we decided to head home cause dinner was in 15 minutes. We pulled in to the driveway at 6:30, quite a bit late for dinner, but I was a good first trip out. A total of 6, isn't bad. Sorry, no pics. When you miss two on the same retrieve, cast to the same spot again, and get one, you're more concerned about getting the lure back out there than you are about pics. Pics next time, I promise. BB
