Hey Bassin Gal on some reels (not all) you can lower your gear ratio on an existing reel by changing out the main /drive gear pinion gear. Depending on the reel….if it’s a reel worth more than $15-$20 you can do it...not exspensive! I figured out how to drop my Pflueger 6:3.1 down to a 5:1 ratio. While I don’t know the advantages first hand…..because I’ve never owned a lower gear ratio reel Everyone is telling me it’s a better gear ratio for cranking and deep cranking. If interested let me know what reels you have and I’m sure some other reel guys will chime in
