Kaye and I made a rare trip to our cabin with no guests this past weekend. We dodged most of the storms in the area and were able to do a fair amount of fishing. She caught 38 fish (25 LM, 6 SM, 6 Rock Bass, 1 Crappie) and I caught 30 (20 LM, 2 SM, 11 Rock, 2 Pike) during our 11 hours of fishing together. Then I caught another 5 LM last night during a 2 hour solo session. For the weekend we each caught 1 LM over 3 pounds, 10 LM over 2 pounds and 1 Smallie over 2 pounds. We had a great time and are looking forward to the next trip when some friends will be up there with us.
Here is Kaye with a 2lb 8oz, 15.5" Smallie from Friday evening... ![]() And here is her best of the year so far...a 3lb 4oz, 17.5" LM caught on a dropshot rig using a 5" wacky-rigged senko during Saturday evening's outing (Cassie already LOVES going in the boat!) ![]() Here is my 2lb 11oz, 15.75" Smallie from Saturday morning... ![]() And here is my best so far this year, caught using a Koppers Live Target Hollow Body Field Mouse (Brown) on Sunday evening -- 3lb 14oz, 17.75". Man, what a fight it was to get it to the boat! It lightly slurped my mouse under just after I had moved it from near the shoreline to the first lily pad. And I had made a pretty long diagonal cast, so it was a real battle to get it through all the pads and back to the boat. I thought sure it was my first 4-pounder of the year when I saw it, but not quite, so that will have to wait for another day. ![]() ![]() With the record late ice-out this year, everything seems to be about 3 weeks behind where it normally would be, including the hatching of loon chicks. We even saw one loon still on its nest all weekend! We saw some of the tiniest chicks we have ever seen, couldn't have been more than 2-3 days old at most. How many are on the adult's back in this picture? ![]() That's right, two! ![]() We had an awesome time watching them...constantly getting up and down from an adult's back and also being fed. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
