hostess twinkies invented in 1930 be jimmy dewar bakery manager of the hostess chicago bakery. first filled with banana creme filling. world war II created a banana shortage so they were changed to currant vanilla creme filling. the twinkies were named for a shoe. the twinkle toe shoe company of chicago.
