Default Question For You Reel Guys

Last summer I bought some Norman DD22 crankbaits. As anybody who has ever fished these things knows they really wear you out after a little while. I have a BPS Extreme 5.4:1 reel that I fish these with but after about 15 minutes I'm done. I looked at getting a David Fritts 4.7:1 reel for fishing deep diving cranks but they don't have them in left hand retrieve which I prefer. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to change the gear ratio of one of their existing reels? Most of the BPS reels innards are the same. I was wondering if I ordered the gears for the David Fritts reel could I swap them out and make my Extreme reel a 4.7:1?
