As some of you may know, I attempted to make my own ranch pond last summer...
Well, I finally got it up and running last August and was holding up fine. I had stocked it with Bass, crappie, bluegill, shad. I had relocated some of the fish from my local lake (with permission) and they were doing Great! I fished it a couple of times with great success, but since school started I've only been there a cpl of times. Well, I went today, only to find out that there is only 1/2 ft of water left in it. BTW it's a relatively small lake (round pound, about 10ft deep max, and 120ft diameter) with lilly pads, cattails, and hyd. (great vegetation!). I looked foward to fishing it well this summer, but since the water level is Dangerously low, and my fish were gone (eaten by birds, animals). I found the decomposed head of the 7lber that I my uncle caught in october. I checked to see if there were any fish left in that little bit of water, only to find a few shad, bluegill, and three dinks. i removed them and relocated them to the lake. Now, im facing a severe dilema. My dad has agreed to hire a bulldozer to clear around the pond, and hire a guy to place that black plastic liner all around in it (severe leakage was the cause). On the bright side, I can now create an awesome fishing structure within the pond. We plan on lining the pond in june, after that, I hope it holds well.
