The Holiday weekend sure turned out to be a great one. Going into the weekend I knew I might be the proud new owner of a boat, I found one on craigslist on the same lake that my family has a house on. So Saturday morning I drove to check it out with my family and liked what I saw so I made the purchase. It's a 12' Ouachita Jon Boat w/ a 4 HP Mercury engine. Very solid boat and the engine runs very smooth. I plan on doing some modifications with it but that will come with time. Its gonna be a great fishing rig, no longer will I have to use the kayak, canoe, or my family's ski boat.
So... back to fishing. I went out twice Friday in the canoe. First trip very unsuccessful only a few short bronzebacks and some pesky rock bass. The second trip was turning out to be the same. I fished all my favorite spots but nothing was working like it had all year. I'm assuming with the increase in temp the bass are finally post spawn in upstate NY. So I was about to call it a day, but I wanted to hit up one more spot. Its a steep drop off probably from 5' to 20' marked by a danger buoy. First cast with my drop shot, I was using a Zoom shaky worm in mardi gras color, it gets whacked hard. Feels like I hooked into a log. After a few minutes I finally net her. Surprisingly it was a largemouth, usually this spots only holds smallies. I took a few pics on my camera phone, but since she was so nice I decided to paddle 100 yds back to my boat house to get the parents to take some pictures too. She was only 19'' but boy was she chunky. I let her go to be caught another day. |
