About two months ago, I taught my 11-year old nephew how to use a spinning reel, and my dad and I took him out bass fishing in the boat for his first time ever. He tried several lures that day, and although he got to reel in a couple of the bass my dad and I hooked, he never got a bite of his own. I wanted so badly for him to catch a fish, but it just wasn't to be that day. He was back for another visit a couple weekends ago and wanted to try again, so we headed out one afternoon. After he reeled in a fish I hooked at the first spot we tried, it finally happened! We had just started fishing at a new spot when he hooked and caught his first ever bass all on his own. Needless to say, we were both very excited!
![]() My nephew's first-ever bass: 1lb 7oz LM - caught using an orange & black spinnerbait over a weedbed ![]() I also had really good luck earlier that weekend on a morning when the fog was ridiculously thick for several hours. I'm pretty sure this was my biggest "bag" ever with 4LM and 1SM that totaled an even 14.0 pounds! All the fish were caught using a dropshot setup with a 5" wacky-rigged Yamasenko. The fog: ![]() The 3 biggest fish from that morning -- 3lb 12oz, 18.5" Smallie; 2lb 10oz, 15" LM & 2lb 15oz, 16" LM ![]() I also had a good night later that weekend, catching 8 bass total, with the biggest five coming in at 12lb 14oz total. Most of those came on the same dropshot setup mentioned above, but the biggest one came on a "Black Widow" colored Poppin' Frog. Here are the best two: 3lb 7oz, 17" LM & 2lb 6oz, 15" Smallie
