The weather forecst today was for sunny , mid 50's and low winds. It looked like a perfect day to try some winter pond fishing. Tony and i met at a private pond up North of town. Everey pond around here is open, but we got to this one and it had a glaze of ice on it. I thought it was just a thin skin of ice as the area where i launched the boat brke up easy. As we started to go and got to the ice edge, the boat stopped. The T motor would not go at all. The Ice was almost 3/8 inch thick there. We almost gave it up, but there was an open area in the middle of the lake so i fired up the outboard and started breaking ice. At an idle speed, the little fibergalls boat cracked and broke a path through the ice out to the open water. I have a few new scratch's in the pait but the ice didn't hurt the boat, thankfully. On my firts cast with a 78 pointer jerkbiat, i caught a chunky little 14 inch bass. I thought it was game on but it looked like that was the first cast jinx. Didn't catch another all day. LOL. To get more open water, we spent a good hour using the boat to break ise and then turning circles to make waves to crack the ice and wash it away. We got most of it open but still couldn't find active fish. Tony finally caught a little crappie on a jerk bait and then not long before we were ready to call it a day he caught a fiesty bass just a bit bigger than mine. All in all, it was a good day, a little chilly but not to bad.
