My two youngest started school today and my oldest and I were sitting around the house. So I told her lets go grab some minnows and go see if we can catch something. We get out to the lake and darn near every hole that is accessible by shore is taken, so we go out on the dock that is there. Getting the daughter set up on a minnow and I start slinging a crankbait. Nothing for either one of us, then I notice one of the holes I wanted was open so we pack up real quick and haul butt over there.
I get the daughter situated in the new spot and tie on a 1/2 oz jig with a green pumpkin pit boss for a trailer. Start flipping it around some lilies and nothing. I thought, "great it's going to another one of those trips out to this d@mn hole; why do I even bother to come out here!" The daughter needs reset, so I get her line in throwing another minnow on for her and cast the opposite direction. So I start flinging my jig around where I initially had my daughter set up. I make a cast towards a hole between the shore and some lilies. Start my bouncing my jig around (there's a lot of rocks in this area), hit a rock, then another. Then I thought a felt a thump, thought, "nah, it's just a rock", then...thump, thump, thump...hook set and holy crap I thought I was hung up. All of the sudden my line started heading for deeper water. Then I saw the bucket break the surface of the water...here's what was on the end of my line. We moved again and my daughter finally got her one, but she wouldn't hold it to get a pic with it. I was happy with my one ![]() |
