What Color!?! When?

Is their an easy guidline to determine what colors are best for baits (soft plastics mainly. cranks, spinnerbaits, jigs) when the waters clear compared to murky?

or even just about the weather... rainy, overcast, sunny, hot, cold, windy, no wind, strong current (river), no current, foggy, clear, and anything else im missing.

Are there main 2 colors to stick to for each type of tackle so you dont buy 6 diff colors and just experiment?

Basically I want to know the color to use for baits in diff weather situations
