Which knot????
What would be a good knot to tie to the spool on a baitcaster for the cheap mono backing before I put braid on?

I just use a simple square or overhand knot...all it's doing is keeping the line from moving, so there's not much, if any, force on it. No bass will ever spool you, so I figure why get fancy? Run the line through one of the "wiffles" of the spool, and tie a knot.

I use the arbor knot. Very It's pretty much a slipknot with an overhand knot at the end so it won't pull all the way out. But sippiboy's right, a simple overhand knot will work fine.

I'm one of the guys that thinks a wrap of electrical tape over the mono, keeps the braid from digging into the backing. I do that on all my reels spooled with braid with mono backing. I heard others say there's no need, but it's worked consistantly well for me.

I always use the albright. While I agree that the knot should never see the light of day, I tie as though a moster may spool me.

Fishn...I wouldn't worry about the balance of the reel as you're retrieving. It is when you're casting that it's a problem. I have had an out of balance spool screech and chatter when casting. My cause was not applying electrical tape consistently. I wouldn't have thought that small of a weight difference could cause the problem, but at 10,000+ rpm, I guess it was.

I haven't noticed a difference in my reels either with/without tying the line through one of the wiffles.

Line to spool - Arbor Knot
Line to Line - depending on what I am joining: 1) Albright 2) Uni to Uni

Not sure where you're asking about where to but the line knot but here's what I do.
Green = braid blue = mono ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... uni - to - uni (two wraps on each side) ...... ...... ...... ...... uni knot with two wraps (to spool) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've never used the arbor knot though, but I'm think I should next time, it looks like a small knot. If you use a big knot than you get a lump in your spool.

Come on up to WA State my friend Thanksgiving weekend and I ask you excitedly. A chum salmon spooled my Curado 201DHSV when it was at optimum capacity.
It was an awesome and disappointing experience all in one. Imagine a smallie on steroids with a bulldog, brutish pull. That's a chum. Steelhead and King Salmon have also been known to spool a 200 sized casting reel. Can't wait. The invite remains open.
