A Happy Ending
Tonight, I helped rescue a lost African Grey Parrot a friend in a nearby town found in her back yard. I drove out to help her because she didn't know what to do with it. The poor girl had spent the past two nights outside. The temp has been in the low 40's. She was thirsty and starving when I got her home. She gobbled up a bunch of food and water. She is now sleeping in Gandalf's old cage in my nice warm kitchen. She is so exhausted, and in a deep sleep, when I go in there to get a drink, she doesn't even open her eyes. She must be so relieved. I can't wait to see "Rosie's" reaction tomorrow when her owner comes to pick her up.

Way to go!
Bryce do large birds have personalities? Like changing moods, various affects and bonding behaviour with primary caregivers? I've never owned birds other than canarys-lovebirds and the like. The only motivators I ever noticed in them were hunger or fear.

That is a good ending and it's a good thing for the bird that an experienced gray owner like yourself was there to help. It's going to be a great reunion for sure. Way to go Bryce! I hope they take Rosie to a vet to have her checked out and make sure there isn't any resperatory issues from being outside in the damp cold for two days.

Kenneth, parrots have personalities just like people do. They definitely have moods, and completely bond with their "owners." My African Grey is very, very attached to me. She will try to follow me through the house if she can.
Lovebirds are parrots, and they are quite good companions if they are socialized properly. Most parrots are cautious around new people. That is because they are very intelligent, and because they are a prey animal in the wild. It usually takes a while (sometimes months) before a parrot will warm up to a new person. But once they do, they are usually a friend for life. Since I just ordered an HD videocamera, I'll probably post some of Bitty's antics soon. Her best trick is waving her foot at you while saying "HI!"
