The inside of rod has a spiral ridge and it removes water from the line and prevents the line from cutting into the high modules linear graphite. It is very sensitive and can cast a further than rods with guides. Weight of rod 10 foot long is 12 oz's.
They still make them overseas for casting competitions and match fishing. At one time they hit the bass fishing market and those who had them loved the rods. Braid changed the scene and they disappeared from the market. Capt Mike
