here's a suggestion for the tourney, instead of making it a weight tourney, make it a length tourney. getting a fish back in the water quickly is the best way to insure its survival. landing the fish, removing hooks, getting your camera, id, measuring device and clicking off a picture of length and girth can be time consuming decreasing the odds of the fish's survival. many people don't like using the honor system because not everybody is honorable and the girth is easy to lie about. therefore I suggest a length tourney. i know i'd rather see the fish live another day than win a tourney.

Thanks Uncle Liz! If you put on a tourney I'm coming down there to fish with you. Or at least see if I can get access to your old super secret fishing hole. I was thinking about a discrimination law suit. Actually all I have to do is ask Kevin to re-instate all of the posts I had before he changed the forum and I think I might make your 200 post limit. But being that it's like 20 degrees here right now and I'm not at all a cold weather fan, I'll just hope that I can reach 200 posts by this spring in case you have tournament then.

thanks for the info pnj,
many times we drag a john boat over the ice and sit on it if the ice is "iffy thin"...problem is on warmer days with water on the ice, the boat collects the days heat and sticks a tad to the ice, but its safer.. usually we get a stray bass about once a week ice fishing for gills or perch or crappies...ya go through a ton of tater chip size gills tho...seems like they all just go around in circles under the ice, ya get busy with one hit after another, then it dies off for a bit, then starts up. Ya have better luck on cloudy days or sunny? |

texasbasser,i think the 200 post rule isnt fair, there are a bunch of great guys that only have like 30 posts,so i think that the honor system should apply. right now the rules are
Official Rules 1. Tournament will commence midnight, December 9th through midnight, January 31st. 2. Size Limit: 12 inches 3. Bag Limit: 5 Black Bass 4. ALL FISH MUST BE RELEASED 5. A picture of your five biggest fish must be submitted. The photo must show the bass up against a measuring device for the length and girth and must have your i.d. in it to count. 6. Then the angler MUST use the weight calculating device that is provided. 7. The biggest combined weight wins. 8. No snagging 9. No live bait 10. No netting. 11. Ponds, Lakes, and any moving water is acceptable. 12. Required: Have a little piece of paper on each picture with your username and "BassFishin.Com" written on it or any i.d. will count,as long as it is visible. 13. Texasbasser and I,skeeter944 are in charge,we will look over each photo submitted, and we will not have any of the crap that fishin fortune tried to pull on us,so nobody try it. We will make a weigh-in thread later when the tourney starts,as well as a disscussion thread. Here is the link for the weight calculator: http://www.probass.com/measure.php Good luck! |

I don't like taking all the time required for multiple pics of both length and girth, I'd rather get my fish back in the water, therefore I'll be sitting this one out.

So let me get this straight...I can not participate because I dont have 200 posts? You guys have all seen the kind of fish I catch. Im nnot going after dinks. I dont even bother to photograph a fish if its UNDER 5 lbs. A 5lber out here is nothing to brag about. I also am having a hard time with the sign saying bass fishing.com thing too. Most of you know I fish out of my kickboat/float tube 95% of the time. Even though its winter I still continue to fish that way. Now Im not asking you guys to change the rules just asking to to consider that I do want to play with yo guys but cant actually do it the way you want me to. I cant really measure and certainly cant hold a big fish and a sign and take a photo at the same time.....
p.s. Whats the winning guy/fish get for a prize? |

You are excluding many folks who have a much better shot at smallies, or even Spots with your succinct statement of only BLACK BASS. But the guys up farther north can at least have a better chance if you allow smallies. Just my opinion. Odds are the Largies will win this, but at least don't discourage participation with smallies.
