Well, I got a 7 H rod with a president reel. The president reel needs to be taken back because of a horrible drag. Now I'm thinking about switching, and the viento was at the top of the list. I'm stuck. I don't know which to get!

Pfleuger will never be one of the brands I reccomend. My dad broke one of his w/in a month, took it back, and broke the 2nd one in 2 days. Bought a Daiwa, and hasnt had a prob since.

pflueger has more ball bearings for the price ,so casting and reeling will be smooth. daiwa cost more $$ but does hold up well and has a great drag.
if you turnament fish alot go with daiwa,it will last longer. but if you consider the money i would go with pfueger.I fish about 2 or 3 times a week summer and winter for everything from spotts to stripers and i love pflueger.
just like a car ...take one for a test drive.

If you plan on dropping $200 on a reel, forget the Viento, and go get a Revo STX. The Revo is a better machine than the Viento on every level. I have both, and like both, but the Viento is not as smooth, not as light, not as compact, and does not have near the drag system that thr Revo does. The only thing the Viento has on the Revo is that twitchin bar. I thought that was going to be real cool when I got my Viento, but I find myself rarely using it. I'll be going with more Revos as I add to my stable.

I just bought a Revo S and it's hard for me believe that there's a better reel out there for $100.00.

stop taking them apart they may last you more than a week...i think this caused your"drag"problem..

a diawa advantage or team diawa are great.. it matters NOTHING as to where the reel was made. almost NONE are even put togather in the us let alone made here...

that said i like to buy american productsif possible. BUT as i stated above the fishing industry as a whole is an import based bussiness....

I wouldn't get either....the viento is gonna probably have the twitchen bar break off eventually its plastic.....I don't know but anything that is plastic will break.....some guy I was showing one to broke the thing off in the store....what a redneck....he puts it the other way and it breaks off but the twitchen bar looks cheap...

That's the best response out of all of the ones I read IMO. "WHAT ARE YOU GONNA USE THE REEL FOR"? That's the most important thing to ask. Also If I may, spending lot's of money on a reel doesn't mean squat. I've spent tons on reels I never used due to my fishing style, because I liked others better that were less exspensive. And the most exspensive isn't always the best for you. How much experience do you have, and how much do you beat up your equipment. If you can get 2 reels you will use, and are a quality reel for the price of one, then to me there's a no brainer. These are just "MY OPNION'S".

Jools, let me put in a plug for the Team Daiwa Advantage 153HST. Flyrod turned me on to them and I REALLY like them. I still use my BPS Extremes, but the 153 has become my favorite. With that reel I can throw a buzzbait INTO the wind and not backlash. $139 won't break the bank as bad, either.

I can't find that flippin reel anywhere. I've looked for two years around my area for a place selling that reel and all anyone has is the 150 model.

I have two Accurist PT's that I use, getting a backup reel soon, and by the end of this summer, hope to own an Energy and/or a Tour Edition PT. I guess I just like the feel of the quantum stuff but would love to get my hands on one of those 153's.

Dammit Ken, I just sold 2 153 advantage reels a month ago for $60.00 each. I hated the advantage reels personally,but each to his own.I also sold 2 Tour Editions before that, got $300.00 for the pair, luckily I did get that much, because I seen them on Ebay going for $100.00 NIB.A Viento can be found at $120.00 there on a pretty regular basis. In my opinion, they sat odd on the rod, seemed really wide when palming the reel. At times the drag system was on the light side for my liking, I hated the feel of them all the way around.I have alot of other Daiwa reels I would rather fish with. I just didn't like the advantage reels at all.As for a flipping switch, if you own a Daiwa reel, it has what used to be called the instaclutch design.This was a feature advertised back in the early Daiwa reels, where you can push upward on the thumbar to engage the reel. Basically you do not need a flipping switch if you can train your self to think to use the instaclutch design.I used to preach about Daiwa reels because they were bullet proof. They performed flawlessly day in and day out on the water.I don't get the same feeling with the newer Daiwa designs.For what its worth, take a look at the Abu Garcia Revo line.In my opinion, they are very difficult to beat for the price, funny how there was a time when I preached about Daiwa reels, now I am starting to preach about the Abu Revo. that low profile revo is what I've been looking for, which model you favor/ the S or sX , or stx, and how much are they, any cheaper than 200 bucks?

The Stx I think is 2 bills, they go down from there in price. I was saving to get a Black Widow, but after hearing all the good things about the Revo line, I might skip that and get one of those!
