What do you use your spinning gear for?
I have a spinning combo and a baitcasting combo. I find that I only really use my spinning combo for cranks and swimbaits. What do you guys use your spinning gear for spinners? Wormin? Lets hear it.

I use my spinning gear for light cranks, topwater poppers, Jerkbaits, most plastics (due to the fact I am still trying to perfect (at least close to) my flippin and pitching. I perfer to throw most cranks on my baitcaster though due to the fill and hook set

Mainly drop shots, smaller cranks and small swimbaits.
Depending on the conditons, finesse worm rigs such as shakey heads. Last edited by HOG Ranger; 03-05-07 at 12:31 PM. |

weightless soft plastics, Balsa crankbaits, anything that would be considered finesse/downsized (shakeyhead, baby spooks, 1/8th or less size of anything).
This year, however, I'm going to be working on skipping. I'm going to get it down on spinning gear first, then try it on backlashers, I mean, baitcasters.

I use spinning gear for everything, but if someone made me choose, it would be for weightless plastics and some top water baits.

I concur here, with the exception being I like a baitcaster for cranks, it seems to allow me more control on the placement of them along the shoreline/cover with less trees/branches being caught LOL. This goes for spinnerbaits as well. I also prefer spinning for c-rigging, the baitcasters have a tendancy to get some minor backlashes due to the weight and bait kinda twirling around in the air on the cast. You can't beat a spinning reel for skipping IMHO. So anything weightless or even with a light weight goes to spinning. Lizards

i also use it for everything but flipping, but the only time i flip is in tournys when im on a boat, so i use my baitcaster to throw heavier baits, but i have used spinnign for years and have come to love them, just learning to use the mighty baitcaster

Shakey heads and light baits like grubs or small cranks. Baitcasters for everything else.

Thanks for all the input, I can definately see the points about using spinning for small cranks because of there weight and for C-rigs because of the swinging action they kind of have when you cast. The reason I was asking is because I find I use my baitcaster for almost everything, but I have a really nice reel(Quantum Energy Pt) so I would like to use it more. Thanks again for all the opinions... keep em comin.

Same as the rest, really.
Shakey head, drop shot, small cranks, small topwaters, grubs, mini-king spinnerbaits, really just anything finesse or light. I also use my spinning gear for the X-Rap.. I can't get any distance with it on a baitcaster unless Ijust want to backlash my line. |

spinning rigs are great for tossing baby-1's.....i use lighter line so you have to be careful if you hook a significant size bass....but i also t-rig plastics on it...but not unlike you i use my baitcaster for all fishing as well....but i love my spinning rig too....i find i use it more in the spring and summer....mainly for myself i think it's because the water is usually more rough in the winter and i just feel more confident with my baitcaster in those conditions....

spinning gear?
I use it to take up space in my rod locker, ha-ha. Really I use it for two things, drop shot and split shotting small worms. Other than that if I get bored and want to go for crappie I may tie on a small tube jig.

I hardly ever use a spinning rig for anything. I fish dang near everything with a baitcaster. Just about the only thing I ever use a spinning rod for is the seldom fished stick bait, and most of the time I fish those with baitcast as well. My spinning rod hasnt seen action in ages. I leave it at home almost always.

I use spinning reels for small mepps spinners, small 1/8oz jigs, small balsa baits like a floating #5 Rapalla, things like that. I bought two 1/8 oz. buzzbaits this spring I will be using with my spinning outfit. I will also use it for my no. 7 shadraps on occation, but only if my casting outfits are already rigged with baits I don't want to remove. Otherwise, I use baitcasteers for everything else.

I have used my spinning rigs for just about everything.
They are great for light stuff, topwater, and especially hard jerkbaits like the husky jerk but this is just me. It doesn't mean I won't use casting gear for these items, because I do. I use the rod with what ever is tied to it.
