What kind of inflatable/cheap boat?

Since i'm only 13 years old, I make money by mowing lawns for 20 dollars from front to back. I am now currently interested in fishing from a boat instead of shore fishing all the time, so I need any opinions to help me decide what kind of inflatable or cheap plastic boat I should get. When I get a job in a few years, mabye I'll buy an aluminum boat, but for now, lets stick with plastic or inflatable.

you could probably find a cheap aluminum or plastic boat with no trolling motor or gas motor for 30-50 bucks, it may be 40+ years old but still float, you're main problem is hauling it around...you need to find one farm pond where the owner would let you keep a old boat with a oar, if nobody would steal it.

As JB posted, how are you going to get this boat around? Even the plastic ones weigh enough where you are not going to carry it very far. Most guys buy a cheap Kayak and fish from that. Any type of inflatable would work also but in my area most of the kick tubes are not legal in the lakes.

You can find a used Kayak at a reasonable price if you look around. They go through the water easily and you can get them in about any water depth so you can go places boats can't.

I have seen new ones as cheap as $250 so you should be able to get a deal on a slightly used one.

How big are kayaks? I want to know this just because my dad takes me fishing sometimes and we would like to use a floatable boat/kayak/raft on the water. Where do you buy kayaks?

Is 250$ cheap for a kayak? Time to start planning my summer filled with mowing the lawn every week. But the effort is worth it.

For a new Kayak, $250 is the low end and that is a shorter one.

Ah, well that means I have to work from May to August just to get the money raked up to buy a Kayak. That's ok!

i got the 5 person one...it holds 880 pounds..its pretty nice
you could probably even make some kind of floor board for it so you can stand up..you can also buy a motor mount that hooks up to the back and buy a cheap trolling motor to put on it..if you get a minnkota endura 36 (around $100), youll get some decent speed and can move around pretty quick.

Doesn't the boat come with oars though? I'll get a motor next year, when I can rake the money up. As for now, all I have to do is convince my parents that it's my money, and I can do what I want with it, etc.

Also, when you buy motors, do they come with recharge stations? I'm not really sure if motors run on electricity or oil.... or both?

they come with oars..but it will be much easier with a motor...there are two kinds of motors. there are outboards which run on gas and trolling motors run on batteries. you need to buy the battery and charger separate..you would want a trolling motor for this kind of boat.

When I was your age I did the infaltable boat thing. It was a waste of money. You have to have a way to inflate them, and I didn't have a good way of doing that one I got to the pond - and the thing was too big to take in the back of a truck unless you spent a ton of time tying it down. Just a waste of money.



Kayaks are much better.

But don't the inflatable boats come with air pumps? And I doubt that you would have trouble to fit that thing in a truck? They're 14' x 5' x 1.5', and once you deflate that, it isn't so big right?

get a kayak, I had a friend who bought one of those infltables and had nothing but problems. Kayaks are much better IMO.

Wait a minute, i'm 13 years old, where on God's green Earth am I to go to enter a fishing tourney? I don't think they hold them anywhere near where I live..., anyways, I just want to fish with my dad at some lakes and reservoirs. Does it matter whether I get a raft or canoe or kayak then?

if you have the money, try to get something like plastic or aluminum. if you are limited on money and need something right away, get the inflatable. but id suggest being patient and saving your money for a kayak or canoe.
