live gills?!? how does one set up a live bream? i have heard of cutting them up and hooking them but not live. really interested in that. although i don't catfish. but it is very interesting. can you show a photo of one set up? thanks.

Well I use a big slip float and put it on the line and set the rest up just like a carolina rig. The bobber stop stops you at the depth you want to fish.The swivel I use to keep the live bait from twisting my line up. I use a #5 or 7 ought Kahle live shinner gammy hook. Hook the gill in the tail in slack water and in the dorsel or mouth if its in the river so they wont drown. You can see the set up in the bottom pic.

How big do they get where you're fishing? When I go deep sea fishing I don't even use rods that big. We catch up to 50 pound lingcod.

We have the catfish like your daughter and buddy caught over here but I've never seen one like the kind you caught. I haven't seen a catfish here in Oregon over 8 pounds.

thanks crabby, i looked real hard at the picture. but me eyes ain't that good to see the how the gill is hooked. even with my glasses on. i can see how you do the bobber. and i can figure how you hooke the gill. just like how you'd hook a minnow for crappie, right? in the tail of dorsel or mouth. cool. thanks pal!
