I didn't know that Wal Mart carried Revo's....

Check this out: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5439151 Now, I don't know about buying a Revo from walmart. I know that most of their "higher end" (ha ha ha) reels have plastic gears, but I don't see the Revo having this... What do you guys think?

Why would a revo from walmart differ from one from Cabelas or BPS or TackleWarehouse?

just wondering. It's not like Abu makes a special Walmart series of Revos. BB

I try not too buy fishin stuff from walmart... I would rather pay a couple bucks more and help out a local fishin shop than buy it from a big chain.

Besides, you can get that reel cheaper on ebay, or ace hardware.

That said, the one in the Wal-Mart ad is a 2009 model...you can get that one for like $120 if you shop around. If you're going to pay $199...get the 2010 model. It is much improved.

Yea typically I dont rely on hearsay so much, it just caught me off guard coming from a reel tech..... I did some online searching and saw a lot of people claiming both sides It's not really different parts, but cheaper materials in making those parts is what I'm thinking he meant.....but I don't know.... Just strange to see so much about it.... but no real answer....... kinda like sasquatch

I agree about the model number. It should be differant if it was a cheaper model. I know for a fact that walmart does have brands make a model just for walmart so they can sell cheaper , and the end result is a cheaper product. |

I will say the Abu Soron STX I bought from Wal-Mart matches the schematic I downloaded exactly. Obviously, I can't speak as to the metallurgical qualities of the parts, but they sure appear the same.

Agreed, this reel is sketchy. I'm looking in to buying one of these and i was excited when I saw the walmart price. I compared it to some of the same reels at tacklewarehouse and other places like bass pro, and there is one key feature missing and that is the red trim on the knob and spool.. not sure if it really is the same reel or not.

Many years ago while in college, I ran the sporting goods section in a Walmart. Back then, the high end reels that Walmart carried were in fact made of lesser components compared to what you would get in a tackle shop.

I have no clue now if that is still true. |

I don't have any first hand experience with Walmart reels. This used to come up a lot in regard to firearms though. Unless it is a special addition with a different name or model number it will be exactly the same product that every other store sells.

How would it make economical or logistical sense for Abu or anyone else to swap parts on their reels for the few thousand that Walmart might sell in a year? More likely Walmart can afford to buy in such bulk that they get better pricing than everyone else and they can afford for their margins to be less. |

Again, I don't know for sure anymore what they do.

But, back when the 5600 series first came with a thumb release (again many years ago) they did in fact look just like a normal one you could buy in a tackle store. The only difference was the drag. I believe if you looked at the schematics, it was listed as an "L" class. |

I have heard from several people that Walmart does sell downgraded electronics, with the same part numbers as the non downgraded items.

Keep in mind, it's just what several people have told me, but if it's true with the electronics, it's probably true with the revos as well

I don't have any real knowledge of it either way other than guns. It just doesn't make sense to me that a company like Abu Garcia, or anyone else would tarnish their reputation by selling an inferior product under the same name. Seems like they would at least call it something else. Why would they risk giving Revo STX a bad name?

Then when I ask why, they told me about the cheaper material theory and how they refuse to work on Abu's from Wally world because of that. I dont get it either, but thats what I was told. And I believe everything Im told

Alright, as far as what I've come to know, the Walmart reel really isn't any different. It IS however advertised wrong as the SX and it should be advertised as the SX-HS. I was at Bass Pro the other day and noticed there IS a difference in the two, that difference being that there is no red trim on the SX-HS, this being the case with the Wal-Mart reel.
