				 | Mono line for Topwater

Guys, I'm looking for a different mono to use for topwater-it is the only application I use mono for. I have been using Trilene Maxx, but am just not real satisfied with it so am looking for a new one. I use P-Line Floroclear for every other mono application, but with the fluorocarbon coating it sinks so I don't use it for topwater. Recommendations?

Reb, I've been using Stren original for 2 years now in 12lb and can't say anything bad about it. Never had a break-off and used the same line for a full year -- I love throwing topwater. Right now they have a $6 mail in rebate for purchase of two spools. It works out to about $2.79 (bps price) per 175 yard spool. |

10lb for the small topwaters (1/4oz) and 12lb for the bigger ones (3/8oz). I've always had luck with Stren original as well, I use it for all of my techniques that I use with a baitcasting reel. Trilene XL for a spinning reel.

Try one of Sufix lines, either the Siege or the Elite. I like the Elite, it is by far my favorite mono.

What Jrob said, Sufix Elite and Siege are the best monos on the market IMO. If you'll be fishing all open water, I'd go Elite. If there's any kind of cover, I'd go Siege. BB

Reb, I've been using the Berkley SilverThread lines for years and I really like them. But this year, I'm trying out the Sufix Elite. I've head so many good comments about this line I want to try it out for myself.

Keith, I'm leaning that direction, too. Heard a lot of great things about Suffix Elite.

The common wisdom states that if Mono floats, and so does braid, the reason to choose Mono is that it has a natural wiriness that helps to keep the bait from running over the slack line and foaling it in the hooks. If this is true, then the stiffer, thicker Mono's in any pound test might be preferred. You sure don't want anything labeled extra limp! Garry2r's |
