So I went up to our lake house with my dad for his birthday. He had a tough week at work and just wanted to get out, relax, and fish. We got out saturday morning, pretty nice weather around 65-70 degrees with a light wind. Started off fishing some mid lake ridges around 20'-40' deep with drop shots, he used live crawlers and I stuck with my favorite roboworms. Caught some decent smallmouths, and then we decided to travel down the lake to another spot.
We ended up fishing in the northwest bay that is fed by a creek with a lot of great structure. Usually when we fish here we drive over and bring the kayaks, but this time we drove the boat up the creek. I started off fishing a challenger minnow, my neighbor had been told that it was really productive this time of year so he bought one for me. First cast with it I get hit but I miss hooking it, so I throw it right back and sure enough I hook up with a decent LMB. We fished there for another hour or so and I caught another largemouth on the drop shot, and a smallie on the challenger. Sunday morning we got out on the water around 8 and start to fish the same ridge as we did Saturday, it is about 100 yds. off our boathouse. At this time the lake was flat and clear and no wind. Pretty soon I notice a bunch of fish jumping pretty close by. So we motor over and almost every cast we were catching smallies just below the surface, I was throwing a crankbait and my dad was swimmin' a baby brush hawg. We were also catching them on the drop shot too, they were all over the water column, something we have never witnessed here before. Within two hours we both probably caught 10-15 smallies. All in all it was a great weekend. |
