Default New Species PB

My buddy treated me to some Rockfish fishing on the Chesapeake Bay for my belated birthday present today and MAN was it a blast. We all hooked up on several fish and I caught 5+ Rockfish with 2 keepers and a keeper Bluefish. Weather was hot but bearable with a nice breeze and the water was pretty calm. My keeper Rockfish went 18 inches and 23.5 inches and my bluefish was 13 inches and the rest of the Rockfish were from 14-17 inches so a good time was had by all. I need this like a hole in my head.....another addiction

Thats a Maryland thing calling them Rockfish lol As to the blues, the 2 we caught we lifted out of the water and right into the cooler for them to thrash it out until they tired out. Mine thrashed the hook right out but my buddies bigger one ripped the line to shreds but when it finally died in the ice chest we saw the hook right there in its mouth so we got the hook back for our guides.

Yeah not bad in the ohio river (w.va.)we also called them rock fish and the hybrids are wipers.
Cross of a white bass and a striper and wipe tackle out in one swipe at the rod tip. Thus Wiper.

My cousin uses chain leaders when he fishes for them , otherwise he said it is pointless cause they just destroy line

I used to fish the Chesapeake when I was stationed in Norfolk, those baby bluefish are some mighty tasty critters!!

Stripes and blues tend to run together on the Bay. You guys troll or chum? Who did you go out with? What part of the Bay?

I forgot the charter service cause it was through my buddies connections. The boat was "Fish Tales" out of Rock Hall MD. Nothing was biting while trolling so we used cut alwies and drifted along. Some rods had a free moving weight to keep the cut bait down and some had just a barrel swivel and the leader and hook with bait. The big fish all came on the non-weighted rigs but more fish were caught on the weighted rigs. We only lost 2 rigs, one on what we think was a HUGE skate that had my buddy's rod bent in half that got tangled on the prop and the other got demolished inside the ice chest by my friend's big blue. When we got a blue we swung it still hooked into the ice chest and slammed the lid shut so it could thrash at will and not cover us in blood.
