I gotta admit when I heard a remake was coming I thought, "You gotta be kidding"....Then I heard who was to portray Rooster, and laughed outloud....lol...."Yeah right"....the Duke rules when it comes to Rooster Cogburn......But, having said that I'm a movie buff, and I've since then seen the previews, and the movie looks interesting enough that i'll watch it just to see......Other then the story line being the same, I don't expect it to be anything remotely like the John Wayne version.....I suspect it'll be less humorous and more bloody....lol.

i am a JOHN WAYNE SUPER FAN, he is one of my all time heros. when i saw they were going to remake this classic, i thought to myself. HOW? what can you do to make it better? i will watchit. but prebably only to critisize it. to me it is like remaking CASABLANCA. just don't think it can be done.
and i agree with 66.....less story line and more blood and guts.

The Coen Brothers and that cast, my guess is it will be one of those that people either love or hate. It's one of the very rare movies that might actually get me in the theater.

I'm not much of a fan of Hollywood and don't usually watch any remakes...BUT I really like True Grit and one of my other favorites is The Big Lebowski. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie since it may be some kind of a crazy combination of both. And yes, that's mighty bold talk from this one-eyed fat man.

True Grit was one of my favorite movies as a kid. This is just one of those movie remakes that I just have to ask..."why?". This was ol' Marion Morrison's archetypal role...
When I was playing music in bars, my band always lived by one simple rule...if we couldn't do a cover song better than the original band, we wouldn't do it at all. There's really no way they could improve True Grit (imho). They should have just made a new Western with the same cast and different story.

Well, I am a huge fan of the Duke, and think that True Grit is in the top 10 movies he ever did. At first I had the same reaction you guys did to the idea of remaking this thing, but I am now excited to see this thing. First of all they have a knock out cast. Actually, if you think about it Glenn Campbell was awful in teh original and the only "great" actors in the original were John Wayne and Robert Duvall. In the new one, you have a collection of some the best acting talent in Hollywood. To top it off it is a Coen Brothers film.
Now stop thinking "Burn after Reading" and think more "No Country for Old Men"... dont expect any goofiness. If anything it will be a little more dark and sinister. And from what I have seen in the previews they are itting a lot of lines word for word with the original movie. I look for it to be a faithful remake worthy of the title. |
