Attn: Jig and Fly Tyers.....
The local Dollar Tree just got some mylar holographic icicles in for the Christmas Season.....both in silver and gold.....500 nineteen inch icicles for a buck. I've made ultralite jigs with them and they catch a variety of fish.....21 different species so far. They also can be used to add a bit of flash to other jigs and flies.....great also that they are holographic and reflect small areas of varied colors, quite well emulating scales.
Dollar Tree also carries a fine colored fiber for hair like flies and jigs......in the toy section you will find "Hair Extenders" for little girls, a fine filament for tying in a selection of various colors. I used electrical cord ties to bundle them every 8 inches and cut them into more manageable sizes. Each extender is made of fine fibers two feet in length. As long as you are there, check out the round hair brushes. If you find the one with the bristles are jammed into the brush handle with a small hook shape on the jammed ends, they make great jig eyes for crawdad patterns.....on the non hook end, they have a teardrop shape making great eyes on stalks that can stick out of the tying material just right by trimming and tying. I use pliars to pull them out of the handle. The diamond dust nail files, 4 in a pack, make great hook sharpeners.... Love the dollar store Christmas season.....Good Fishing, and Happy Holidays, Mac |

Doesnt end there the vast majority also have a selection of reading glasses to see the eyes with, like 5 bucks, aloe for sunburn or not getting one if applied prior also good wind burn protection, made from cactus and dries quick. If they have a craft section then beads, feathers etc.ostrich and pheasant turkey sometimes attached to something sometimes not,not just rooster.
Clear fingernail polish makes a decent sealer, just have to open your eyes. |
