Bubba Bass Report Sorta..
The plan was the avoid the 200 boats fishing in the three tourneys on the Potomac today by running 13 miles South and fishing main river points. With winds predicted at 7 mph out of the NE should be easy.. right? Wrong... weather man got it very wrong today and we met with howling 25 mph winds NW that shifted North then finally NE. Main river looked like two creams in your coffee. Rollers with white caps ARGGG.. Tried to wait out the winds in a creek and got a fish. Only had 20 boats around us. Ran back into launch creek and conjured up a few more bass and tide died..
Sometimes the best plan is to be flexible about the plan.. Had a great time doing something I love to do.. Capt Mike

You know, the only job where you can be absolutely wrong, and people just accept is a meteorologist. Looks like the customers were happy though Capt.

I was there Friday AND Saturday when the wind blew. Both days ran 20 miles, from Smallwoood, north to Piscataway Cr, where we were catching plenty of bass. Friday the run up was easy, but the ride back - another story with the main river quite nasty after the wind picked up.
Saturday we made the same run and got to Piscataway just as the wind was kicking up. Stayed there all day and it was difficult finding some spots to block the wind, blew pretty darn hard all day - until about a 1/2 hr before we had to make the run back, so it wasn't too bad. The Potomac can get pretty nasty, really quickly when the wind kicks up and blows against the tide. Mike - you forgot to mention the t-storm with Tornado warnings Wed. evening and Thurs. morning..................... LOL. Saw an ugly catch of snakeheads on Thursday - Mike probably knows where this is - brought in by the catfish farmers in Mattawoman Cr. They had 16 - 18 of them running from 6 - 8 pounds. They are getting big!!! I didn't run across any, but a friend did catch a 7 pounder in Pamunkey Cr. on Saturday. These are the snakeheads. Last edited by bassboogieman; 05-01-11 at 05:55 PM. |
