I have the hub/bearings that are oil lubed. Rig purchased in 05 new and about 1200 miles per season since purchase. I have had no problems, but with winter storage approaching, should I consider some sort of maintenance or cleaning or checking the seals? The color of the oil still looks good, but I honestly almost forget about them until I am in the middle of nowhere. By the time I am back home they are already out of my mind. Thanks for any suggestions.

Filled and not dark or burnt oil. You are good for another year or two..
That is why I want oil filled hubs... Capt Mike

I had the oil bath hubs on my last boat which was a Ranger and I have them on the Triton that I own now. I have always been told that the oil in them didn't need to be changed for at least 10 years. I didn't really figure that amount of years was a very accurate way to gauge when they needed to be changed since one guy might tow his trailer a lot more than the next guy every year, multiply that by ten years and there is a significant difference in miles towed and to me the miles towed are what should dictate when you change the oil. It's very easy to change the oil in them, I did it on my Ranger but haven't gotten around to it on my Triton. I agree that you probably have a lot of life left in the oil however and I personally wouldn't sweat it for a few years, maybe even as much as another 5 years depending on how much you tow your rig. If you notice the hubs getting hot on longer trips then I would change them, otherwise just keep on driving the wheels off of her. Keep in mind that by the hubs getting hot I mean so hot that you can't keep your hand on them, warm is normal.

Like the others have said just make sure the oil is clean looking and full. The cool hubs are similar to those used on tractor trailers and are designed to go thousands of miles without being serviced.
