Haven't been fishing anywhere other than ponds in almost a month and was starting to twitch so a friend and I decided to brave the cold and rain. Pretty constant rain all day and temps in the mid 40's made weather less than perfect but water temps in the mid 60's and the plant generating had the fish biting!
![]() ![]() Another fattie. ![]() Swallowed swimbait. ![]() Most awesome one of the day. We were at the outlet, skipping swimbaits under the cables when a fish started popping shad right off the rock point. Too shallow for the swimbait I was throwing so I ran a spinnerbait by and a big fish blasted it but didn't hook up. Grabbed my swimbait rod with a 6" Spro BBZ 1, fired it and held my rod high so it would run right under the top. Got to the same spot and got plowed. Didn't weigh her because she got the back hook deep and I wanted to get her back in the water as soon as possible but was probably in the 4.5-5lb range. ![]() ![]() It was a fun day, wish my friend could have got on a big one but maybe next time. |

Dang......that first pic says it all! There's a hot water discharge on Lake Wylie just a few minutes away, I've never bothered to fish it but maybe I should.

Man, I wish I had a powerplant lake even remotely close to me... I would be all over it in the winter. You boys with the power plant lakes are lucky to be able to catch fish year round!

That looks like La Cygne, is it? I heard from some older reports that the water levels was way down. Has it come back up?

Serious gut on that pig.
It makes me totally jealous, as we used to have a "heated" lake like that around here, but they closed it some years ago due to high Selenium levels.

Thanks for the kind words guys
![]() pro reel-It was La Cygne and the water is still down but it has come up enough that I felt comfortable running on plane anywhere on the lake. There is a couple big stumps in the middle that stick out of the water but as long as you know where they are you can avoid them no problem. I think the big baits were the key. There was a lot of shad even by La Cygne standards so I think we had to use something big enough to make it worth the effort to chase. My first one over 4 and the other one with the really fat gut both spit up shad over 6" long at the boat so they are eating big shad at the outlet. The outlet was by far out most productive area too. |

Nice! That 6" BBZ-1 is killer, my new favorite bait(Until I can get my hands on a 3:16 baby wake or wake jr.).

proreel-I'd meet you down there if I had money to make the drive again, Sunday and Monday are my days off so I'd be off too. You ever fish Wolf Creek? Seems like that would be a lot shorter drive for you and still get to fish the warm water discharge.
bama-absolutely, I'm always careful to stay off the cables. I have been known to lift the cable up and hand the rod under the cable if I hook a big fish that I don't want to have to try to get off the bottom and over the cable. I've seen people get caught fishing on the wrong side of the cable or fence and they are not afraid to make arrest because of it. |

Blue, I'm in the same boat, gas money would kill me if i didn't split it with someone from here. Been spending all my gas money going back and forth to KC to see Easton. I never made the trip to wolf creek because it gets so nasty when it's windy and it's always windy when i go fishing, it's a curse. LOL. From Wichita, it's a little over 2 hours to the wolf area and it's 3 hours to la Cygne, but even when it's windy, there are safe areas on la Cygne
