Just curious, does anybody here still use round reels for bass fishing?

short answer is YES. abou garcia 5500 here as well as some of the OLDER mag force reels. compaired to todays reels, they are round. lol.

I have 2 Garcia 4600C3 models. I just recently retired them from every day use but mainly because the low profile designs of many of todays reels fits my smaller hands better. But I still have them at the ready for when called upon.

I have and heavily use 2 of the 4600 c3 reels and one 5600 c4 wide spool, along with my other low profile reels. I use my round reels for cranking shallow to medium divers and slow rolling spinnerbaits. I don't really like them for finese presentations but love them for faster presentations. They're tanks!

I prefer round reels. I use Garcia Morrums and Revos, unfortunatly it seems the lp reels like the Revos are a little more popular and therefore available, I wish they would update some of the technology for round reels being offered on the mass market. It seems like most of the round reels, with the possible exception of calcuttas (which I have never used, but never been impressed with in a store either) are japanese market deals.

I've got a couple of old 5600's that aren't in the rotation anymore but are capable of being called up at anytime. Still use a 10 yr old calcutta for deep crankin.

I was actually thinking about putting rod holders on my small boat, and putting some flexible rods in them with Round crappie reels, and trolling. Haha, would just be fun to see if it actually would work for crappie.

Round reels were all I used up to a year ago. Ambasseduers C3 and C4s. Still use them regularly for swimbaits. In fact pro reel has one of them now giving tune up for me. Still use my 4600. They are all great reels.

I've got an Abu C4 that I really only use for Musky fishing. All the reels I use for bass are low profile casting reels.

as my name denotes i am a muskie fisherman so i have a very large arsenal of round reels from some abu 5500's to some calcutta 400 b's but i am even starting to phase these reels out with toros and winches. when you plan on casting for 12 hours the lp's are alot more forgiving on the hands. I do cast all my big swimbaits (for bass) on a calcutta 400 still though.

Use Calcutta 400te, Cardiffs, Corvalus, Abus(various models), TiCAs Caimans, all for musky, and swimbait set-ups. Would switch to Corado 301, Winches, and Toro's for my smaller swimbaits, like mrmuskie, and will when I can afford it.

I don't, but I sure wouldn't mind to have a 4600C4 or 2 just for experimental uses.

Just retired my last one. However, if I were equipped with all Ambassadeur 4600C4's I wouldn't feel lost in any way.

Ambassadeur T5600, still gets use. Have it on a 6ft.M/fast St.Croix.

If I would of known that they would become an E-bay hit I would've left it in it's original box.
For those unfamilar with this reel, I think it's like 80-90% stainless steel including the bearings.
When fishing is slow I can use it for an anchor.
