Wide Spool Baitcasters
I went out yesterday to Bass Pro and bought a Carbon Black reel on sale for $70. I looked at all of the models, and I settled on the widespool version, because i was thinking that I could use it for snook and redfish in the saltwater if we ever went back. I will put it on a MH rod and cast rattletraps on it in the mean time. I was wondering if anyone else uses widespools or round reels any more?

I generally prefer reels with narrow, shallow spools. I don't like using backing when I spool up and I like to keep my spools full. I have recently started using more backing but I am far from sold on the idea.
I do have a couple of wide spool Patriachs, they actually make 2 different versions, one is noticeably wider and holds considerably more line. I have been using those reels when I use really heavy line. When I fish jigs or pitch with fluorocarbon, I will use one of the wide spool reels loaded with 17-20lb fluoro. Using a heavy line that isn't braid is when I find the wide spool reels the most useful.
