While the wife and I were in Chauvin La. back on 5-22-12.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_sharpnose_shark#Size Mine was only 24", tail hooked it on 6lb line. You talking about a fight, it was a good one on 6lb line that I was trout fishing with, and no it was not braid either. We don't know if there were a lot in the area we were that day, but something swam by Tanya 30lb braid and just cut the line, like a knife in warm better, we also think it tried to taste her bobber, because something came up and left teeth marks on her bobber. So after that we went to another spot to fish for trout. lol (cause nothing was biting but sharks) We didn't do to bad for our first time trout fishing, we caught 6 trout, (because I woud not go off shore very far, in her 15' boat) the biggest being 18" (wife got it), the rest were 15 to 15 1/2". On Thursday, (last day), we couldn't get a bite, so we went red fishing and put 5 in the boat. Me 3 her 2, 4 off of one island about 15' long and 3 to 7' wide. You talking about fun!! If any one of you ever get the chance to go Red fishing you MUST go!! You won't be able to wait untill the time you can go. |

Nice report! I'm hoping for an Atlantic sharpnose in the next few days m'self. The wife wants to take a drive down to the coast, and I'm taking some of my rods and a tackle bag that looks like it ate too much at my fishing buddy Tóño the Mexican's place (I packed it Tuesday, and I don't think it'll hold another bag of softbaits!)
I still don't know whether I'll be fishing NC or SC (or even the mountains of TN, because we haven't planned it farther than "we're leaving tomorrow"), but I'm prepared for a noble attempt at species #71 either way. If we're in the Carolinas, I have a plan for an Atlantic sharpnose! Congrats! Hopefully I'll match your catch soon! (I'll post pics if I do!) |
