Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report

Well, here we are almost on top of the best big bass fishing month on Lake Fork. March is one of the best big fish months on Lake Fork. This is a time you need to spend as many days as possible on the water if you are looking for that fish of a life time. The past week has shown that the big females are present. There has been many seven plus bass reported at the marinas. Another thirteen plus was caught last Friday. The jig, spinner baits, and lipless crank baits have been the most popular baits. Three to seven foot has been the magic depth. The water temp is still in the upper forties, but some of the coves have shown some fifties in the afternoons. Most of these big fish are coming around ten till two. This is staying inline with some of the articles on big fish. The midday from ten to two is a prime time to get a big bite on most lakes. Keep this in mind when that lunch time hunger hits you it maybe hitting that big sow. Key in on the points on either side of creeks and secondary points just inside small bays and coves. There maybe a few fish in the backs of small feeder creeks and coves but the water is still cold and we are still a week or so before they will get there in numbers.
The weightless Wave Bamboo, Lake Fork Tackle Ring fry, flukes, and wacky worms are another good bait to work around the grass and timber along the banks. Light weight Carolina and Texas rigs are another good choice. Don’t forget the lizard is a natural enemy of the bass especially during this time of year. This would be a good bait on your Texas or Carolina rig.
The crappie are still holding on the main lake points with small jigs and minnows being the bait of choice. They have been at 30 to 37 foot.
