A classmate of mine decided to take his wife down to universal studios in Orlando, and I mentioned how I liked fishing down there. Somehow, we hatched a plan where they would drop me off at a fish camp, and I would fish for 2 days while they went to the amusement parks, then drive back ...some 1000 miles or so for a day and a half of fishing..
Well, it worked. In these days of gas prices being so high, I feel like I had a darn nice weekend. Here are the pictures. Had never fished east toho before, and it was a treat to knock it off the list. The glorified pool toy that I was fishing out of actually became a strength and not a liability as we were able to pack it in the sleeping bag you see in pic one, and throw it all in the trunk of the car with no problem. As long as there is no wind, it is very fishable as you can turn on a dime. It helped that for the most part, the wind never really got bad save the few storms that rolled through saturday evening. I was able to dodge some pretty wicked looking thunderstorms. As for my catch, it was decent average quality of fish being right at 3 pounds. All in all, it was just surreal to be thinking about staying and fishing within 15 miles of home all week, and then have a choice destination just fall in the lap. That doens't happen often.

I was there last Jan. and I guess you put in at Boggy Creek, I think it was on the north side? Day we were there is was blowing very hard from the south and we could not get out on the lake. We just fished the canal leading out from the marina and the reed beds on the right (west) side of the canal. Caught fish there, no monsters but considering our limitations on getting out on the lake in our kayaks, not bad at all. Always good getting away for a weekend of fishing. When did you get the inflatable? Expanding on the kayak flotilla, huh?

Yeah Boggy Creek is right. The wind was so gentle saturday I ventured out to a mid lake grass bed. Glass. No fish out that far.
I eventually went up boggy creek into a little lake area that had lots of active bass, busting flukes and spinnerbaits. I actually bought the inflatable right after my other kayak was stolen. Its been hard to take it seriously as a fishing tool, seeing Im one hook away from seeing it deflate, but in a limited role like I used it this weekend, it was fun. Only $75 at wally world. Kids looking to get on the water, take note. You can keep it in a trunk, and pump it up with a hand pump in 7 minutes.
